Chic and the late Donna Summer are once again among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Billboard.com says Chic is up for consideration for a seventh time, while Summer is making her fifth appearance on the ballot. A total of 15 acts are in the running for the honor. Rush, Deep Purple, Procol Harum, and the Marvalettes are among the first time nominees, along with blues great Albert King, as well as rap pioneers Public Enemy and N.W.A. Meanwhile, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Kraftwerk, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band are getting their second chance at induction.
Artists become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their debut recording. And for the first time, the fans will have a say as to who makes it in. Voting will be open at RollingStone.com from now until December 5th, with the top five acts making up a so called "fan's ballot" that will be included among the more than 600 ballots sent out to artists, historians, and music industry insiders. The Rock Hall's Class of 2013 will be celebrated with the 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which will take place in Los Angeles on April 18th.
