AN INDIANA COUNTY MAN DIED IN A WRECK TUESDAY AFTERNOON.  THE CORONER SAYS 83 YEAR OLD ROBERT PENROD OF BRUSH VALLEY WAS NORTHBOUND ON ROUTE 259 IN BRUSH VALLEY TOWNSHIP WHEN HIS CAR CROSSED INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE AND STRUCK A PICKUP DRIVEN BY 70 YEAR OLD CLAYTON LIBENGOOD OF PENN RUN.  LIBENGOOD WAS TREATED AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL.

A JOHNSTOWN FAMILY CALLS JASON RIPLEY A HERO AFTER HE RAN INTO A BURNING HOME MONDAY NIGHT AND SAVED 3 CHILDREN TRAPPED UPSTAIRS AT CAMBRIA PLACE AND 6TH AVENUE. AUTHORITIES SAY RIPLEY WAS SWIMMING IN THE HOME’S POOL WHEN HIS GIRLFRIEND NOTICED SMOKE.  THE KIDS’ FATHER ALSO RAN INSIDE AND GOT THEM OUT SAFELY. ACCORDING TO FIRE OFFICIALS, THE FIRE WAS ELECTRICAL AND STARTED IN THE KITCHEN.   THE PROPERTY WAS INSURED, BUT THE FAMILY DID NOT HAVE RENTER’S INSURANCE.

ALTOONA POLICE SAY THEY ARE FOLLOWING UP LEADS IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF WASHINGTON D-C NATIVE STEPHEN HACKNEY WHO WAS KILLED EARLY SATURDAY AT A HOUSE AT 124 WALNUT AVENUE.  POLICE HAVE NOT SAID HOW MANY SHOTS WERE FIRED, OR WHAT TYPE OF WEAPON WAS USED.  HACKNEY DID JAIL TIME FOR A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN ALTOONA BACK IN 2006.

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AN EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT IN EAST CARROLL TOWNSHIP.  IT HAPPENED ALONG THE 13-HUNDRED BLOCK OF DUTCH ROAD.  POLICE SAY A CAR ROLLED OVER AND PINNED ONE PERSON UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE NAME OF THE VICTIM HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

STATE POLICE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY ARE LOOKING FOR THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO VANDALIZED THE SONS OF ITALY IN PATTON EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.  THE VANDALS BROKE WINDOWS AND LEFT SOME BLOOD AT THE SCENE.  THEY TOOKE AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF CASH  AND DRANK SEVERAL BEVERAGES…THEN DUMPED TRASH ON THE FLOOR AND BROKE OUT OTHER WINDOWS BEFORE LEAVING.  ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL TROOPERS AT 471-65-HUNDRED.
