TWO PEOPLE ARE INJURED … IN A SHOOTING IN JOHNSTOWN.  IT HAPPENED IN HORNERSTOWN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF MESSENGER AND HORNER STREETS AT ABOUT 10 LAST NIGHT.  TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH GUNSHOT WOUNDS.  NO WORD ON THEIR CONDITIONS OR WHAT LEAD TO THE SHOOTING.

SOMERSET COUNTY STATE POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A BANK ROBBER.  A MAN ROBBED THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK IN STOYSTOWN AT ABUT 9AM MONDAY AND GOT AWAY WITH AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF MONEY.  HE’S DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE, 50-60 YEARS OLD WITH A SLIM BUILD AND SOME FACIAL HAIR AND WAS WEARING CAMOUFLAGE PANTS, SHIRT AND HAT.  ANYONE WHO HAS ANY INFORMATION IS URGED TO CALL POLICE.

CENTRAL CAMBRIA HIGH SCHOOL’S EXTRA SECURITY IS DONE NOW THAT THE SATURDAY PROM IS OVER, BUT SOME PARENTS WANT THE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS TO STAY IN PLACE THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.   A SPECIAL SECURITY OFFICER WAS BROUGHT IN AFTER A NOTE WAS FOUND ON A BATHROOM WALL INDICATING THAT A SHOOTING WOULD TAKE PLACE THE DAY BEFORE THE PROM.  NOW, THERE’S A PUSH FOR A TWO DOLLAR DONATION FROM EACH STUDENT TO PAY FOR THE EXTRA SECURITY OFFICER TO STAY IN THE SCHOOL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR.

FORMER PENNSYLVANIA SUPREME COURT JUSTICE JOAN ORIE MELVIN AND HER SISTER WILL BE SENTENCED TODAY.  BOTH SISTERS WERE FOUND GUILTY OF MISAPPLICATION OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS, WHILE JANINE ORIE WAS ALSO CONVICTED OF TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE.  ORIE MELVIN RESIGNED HER SEAT ON THE HIGH COURT LAST WEEK.

TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOLLOWING A REPORT OF SHOTS BEING FIRED ON MESSENGER STREET NEAR HORNER STREET IN JOHNSTOWN AROUND 10 LAST NIGHT.  POLICE COLLECTEDEVIDENCE AT THE SCENE, BUT NO OTHER INFORMATION HAS YET BEEN RELEASED.

DONALD LYNCH, A GUARD AT THE STATE PRISON AT SOMERSET, IS DUE AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY.  HE’S CHARGED WITH SUPPLYING DRUGS, PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS, AND OTHER CONTRABAND TO INMATES.  LYNCH’SS WIFE CALLED THE AUTHORITIES AFTER SHE INTERCEPTED ONE OF THE DELIVERIES AND BECAME SUSPICIOUS.

HASTINGS BORO POLICE HAVE CHARGED 24 YEAR OLD KEVIN CHRISTOPHER OF NORTHERN CAMBRIA WITH ROBBING THE P&P PIT STOP IN FEBRUARY…AND HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY.  CHRISTOPHER HAD ALLEGEDLY BRAGGED TO A FRIEND THAT HE WAS THE ONE WHO HELD UP THE STORE. THAT FRIEND WAS ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES THIS MONTH AND TOLD THE COPS.

CHRISTOPHER IS IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY JAIL ON 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL.

2 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SAVED ANOTHER MAN’S LIFE THIS WEEKEND.
OFFICIALS SAY HOLLIDAYSBURG HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS DANIEL BAKER AND CALEB PARNELL PERFORMED C-P-R UNTIL E-M-T’S ARRIVED AFTER A MAN COLLAPSED WHILE JOGGING ON THE TRACK AT TIGER STADIUM.  DANIEL RECENTLY GOT HIS LIFE GUARD CERTIFICATION AND CALEB WORKS WITH THE SKI PATROL.  BLAIR COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR DAN BOYLES IS INVITING MORE YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE A FREE 16 HOUR COURSE CALLED COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM. THE NEXT ONE IS COMING UP JUNE 6TH AND 7TH.
