PROSECUTORS ARE SAYING A 22-MONTH-OLD INDIANA COUNTY BOY WAS SMOTHERED TO DEATH BY HIS STEPFATHER.  YOUNG MALACHI PATTERSON WAS REMOVED FROM LIFE SUPPORT AT CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF UPMC.  HOMICIDE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE CHARGES AGAINST 27-YEAR-OLD JUAN RAUL CAMPBELL OF BURRELL TOWNSHIP.  INVESTIGATORS SAY HE PLACED HIS HAND OVER THE CHILD'S MOUTH AND NOSE TO GET HIM TO STOP CRYING.

NO STUDENTS WERE INJURED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY … WHEN A CAMBRIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT BUS STRUCK A TREE ON ROUTE 36 BETWEEN PATTON AND CHEST SPRINGS. THE BUS DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.  ABOUT TWENTY STUDENTS WERE ON THE BUS, BUT THEY WERE NOT HURT.

A SHEETZ CONVENIENCE STORE ON 17TH STREET IN ALTOONA HAD TO BE EVACUATED YESTERDAY AFTER A MYSTERIOUS BRIEFCASE WAS FOUND OUTSIDE THE MAIN DOOR.  IT TURNED OUT TO BE NOTHING, HOWEVER, THE OWNER OF THE SILVER BRIEFCASE WAS CONTACTED AND THE STORE WAS ABLE TO BE REOPENED.

A 21-YEAR-OLD STUDENT AT TRIANGLE TECH IN GREENSBURG IS BEING ACCUSED OF HAVING DRUGS IN HIS BACKPACK WHILE ATTENDING CLASSES AT THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL.  SCHOOL OFFICIALS REPORTEDLY FOUND HEROIN IN ALEXANDER J. PRIMACK'S PACK WHEN HE FELL ASLEEP DURING CLASS.  AN ARREST WARRANT HAS BEEN ISSUED, AND PRIMACK WAS DISMISSED FROM THE SCHOOL.

ALSO ON THE BALLOT ARE DISTRICT JUDGES AND JURY COMMISSIONERS.  POLL WORKERS WILL ASK FOR PHOTO I-D…HOWEVER IT IS ONLY REQUIRED FOR FIRST-TIME VOTERS OR THOSE VOTING AT A POLLING PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THE STATE GAME COMMISSION IS LOOKING FOR THE PERSON WHO SHOT A BALD EAGLE WITH A SMALL CALIBER RIFLE IN ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY.   AUTHORITIES SAY A GROUP OF A-T-V RIDERS FOUND THE INJURED BALD EAGLE ON MAY 10TH. A GAME COMMISSION OFFICER TRIED TO GET IT TO A VET CLINIC IN STATE COLLEGE, BUT IT DIED ON THE WAY THERE.   BALD EAGLES ARE NO LONGER ON THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST, BUT THEY ARE CLASSIFIED AS A THREATENED SPECIES IN PENNSYLVANIA.  ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL 1-888-PGC-800. THERE IS A REWARD FOR INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO AN ARREST.

FLAGS FLEW AT HALF STAFF OUTSIDE NORTHERN BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL YESTERDAY IN MEMORY OF 15 YEAR OLD KALEB RIGHTENOUR OF MARTINSBURG.  THE SOPHOMORE DIED AFTER CRASHING HIS QUAD DURING A RACE AT THE BLAIR-BEDFORD DIRT TRACK SATURDAY NIGHT.  STUDENTS ALSO CREATED A MEMORIAL INSIDE THE BUILDING. SERVICES WILL BE HELD LATER THIS WEEK.
