SOME HEAVY SNOW IS HEADED OUR WAY.  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR BEDFORD AND SOMERSET COUNTIES AND THERE ARE ALSO WINTER STORM WATCHES FOR CAMBRIA, BLAIR AND HUNTINGDON COUNTIES.   THE WINTER STORM WARNING IN BEDFORD AND SOMERSET COUNTIES IS IN EFFECT FROM 6:00 TONIGHT … TO 6:00 TOMORROW NIGHT.   SOME PORTIONS OF THE LAUREL MOUNTAINS COULD GET AT MUCH AS 12 INCHES OF SNOW.

A CRASH EARLY THIS MORNING IN INDIANA COUNTY HAS KILLED TWO PEOPLE.  THE PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE WEBSITE SAYS ONE CAR HIT A LARGE TREE ON ROUTE 403 NEAR MARION CENTER IN EAST MAHONING.  KILLED IN THE CRASH WAS 49 YEAR OLD CURTIS LEE KUNKLE AND 36 YEAR OLD LEEANN MARIE KOMLOSKY, BOTH OF MARION CENTER.  THE INDIANA COUNTY CORONER BELIEVES THAT ALCOHOL MAY HAVE PLAYED A ROLE IN THE CRASH.

THERE WERE MORE THAN 300 BISHOP MCCORT STUDENTS, ALUMNI, PARENTS, AND SUPPORTERS WHO CAME OUT LAST NIGHT TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT OF SUSPENDED PRINCIPAL KEN SALEM.  THERE WAS A PUBLIC MEETING HELD BY THE ALL NEW “FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF BISHOP MCCORT” AT THE RICHLAND FIRE HALL.  THE GROUP WANTED TO KNOW WHY SALEM WAS PLACED ON LEAVE FRIDAY, BUT THE SCHOOL’S TRUSTEES DID NOT GIVE A REASON.  SALEM’S ATTORNEY SAYS IT IS BECAUSE OF THE SEXUAL ABUSE SCANDAL INVOLVING BROTHER STEPHEN BAKER.  THE GROUP PLANS TO ORGANIZE AS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION TO SUPPORT BISHOP MCCORT.

IT’S NOT YET KNOWN WHAT SPARKED THE FIRE … BUT A VEHICLE PARKED AT THE WESTSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN JOHNSTOWN CAUGHT ON FIRE YESTERDAY MORNING … AND THE FIRE SPREAD TO ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED NEXT TO IT.  STUDENTS WERE NOT IN DANGER, BUT FIRE CREWS HAD TO BLOCK OFF THE ENTRANCE TO THE SCHOOL FOR A WHILE.

IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY … FIRE OFFICIALS ARE LOOKING FOR THE CAUSE OF A FIRE THAT DAMAGED A BUSINESS SUNDAY NIGHT.  IT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT AT RAPID WAYS TRUCKING SUPPLY ON GEORGE STREET IN LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP.  NO ONE WAS IN THE BUSINESS WHEN THE FIRE STARTED AND DAMAGE IS ESTIMATED AT ABOUT 600-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

A PET DOG DIED YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN A FIRE DAMAGED A HOME ON KILLEN SCHOOL ROAD NEAR NICKTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY.   THE HOME IS OWNED AND OCCUPIED BY THE FINNIGAN FAMILY, AND NO ONE WAS HOME WHEN THE FLAMES BROKE OUT.   NICKTOWN FIRE CHIEF FRANK DUMM SAYS THE FIRE STARTED INSIDE AN INTERIOR WALL.

THE STATE GAME COMMISSION YESTERDAY ANNOUNCED THAT TIGHTER REGULATIONS WILL BE IN PLACE THIS YEAR AS THEY TRY TO STOP THE SPREAD OF CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE IN THE STATE’S DEER POPULATION.  3 DEER THAT TESTED POSITIVE WERE KILLED IN FREEDOM AND FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIPS IN BLAIR COUNTY AND ONE IN SOUTH WOODBURY TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY.   C-W-D DOES NOT APPEAR TO AFFECT HUMANS, EVEN THOSE WHO EAT VENISON FROM AN INFECTED ANIMAL.
