IN INDIANA COUNTY … FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST CYRIL WECHT TOOK THE STAND FOR THE PROSECUTION IN KEVIN MURPHY'S TRIPLE HOMICIDE TRIAL.  WECHT TOLD JURORS THAT MURPHY'S MOTHER, SISTER, AND AUNT WERE EACH KILLED BY GUNSHOTS FROM CLOSE RANGE.  PROSECUTORS SAY MURPHY KILLED THE WOMEN INSIDE THE FAMILY BUSINESS FOUR YEARS AGO TO APPEASE HIS GIRLFRIEND.  IF CONVICTED OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER, PROSECUTORS WILL SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY.

IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY … A WOMAN WILL SPEND TWO MONTHS TO A YEAR IN JAIL … AFTER LEAVING HER CHILDREN ALONE AT A PLAY AREA.  POLICE CHARGED 35 YEAR OLD BOBBI JO CARPER WITH LEAVING HER ONE AND THREE YEAR OLD KIDS AT A LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP PLAY AREA LAST JUNE … AS SHE WENT TO WAL MART.  AN EMPLOYEE NOTICED THE KIDS WERE NOT SUPERVISED AND CALLED POLICE.

THE GREATER JOHNSTOWN WATER AND SEWER AUTHORITY WILL WORK ON AN EMERGENCY VALVE REPLACEMENT PROJECT TODAY.  THE WORK WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE INTERSECTION OF DERBY STREET AND FRANKLIN STREET.  IF YOU LIVE IN THE ROXBURY SECTION OF TOWN YOU SHOULD BOIL YOUR WATER FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE BEFORE CONSUMING IT … UNTIL TOLD OTHERWISE.  THE WORK SHOULD WRAP UP LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

FOLLOWING A PRELIMINARY HEARING, JAMES SCHROLL, CHARLES MEYER, AND JASON MAINES…ALL OF JOHNSTOWN…HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL IN CONNECTION WITH A FEBRUARY 24TH HOME INVASION IN THE MOXHAM SECTION OF TOWN.  POLICE SAY A LARGE QUANTITY OF MARIJUANA HAD BEEN ACCIDENTALLY DELIVERED TO THE HOUSE AND THE HOMEOWNER TURNED IT IN.   THE SUSPECTS THEN WENT TO THE HOME AND THE INCIDENT ENDED WITH SCHROLL AND THE RESIDENT GETTING SHOT BY THE SAME BULLET. SCHROLL WAS HIT IN THE HEAD, BUT IS RECOVERING.

FUNERAL SERVICES ARE SCHEDULED TODAY IN SOMERSET COUNTY FOR PAINT TOWNSHIP POLICE SERGEANT WILLIAM GEPHART.  HE DIED OF SEVERE HEAD INJURIES FOLLOWING AN A-T-V CRASH ON APRIL 15TH.  HIS 12 YEAR OLD SON ALSO SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.  GEPHART WILL BE BURIED WITH FULL MILITARY HONORS AT BERKEY CEMETERY.

POLICE THINK 35 YEAR OLD LEONARD ELLIS OF MOUNT UNION MAY HAVE HAD HELP SUNDAY WHEN HE STOLE A TRUCK TRACTOR FROM BURCHFIELD TRUCK SALES IN DUNCANSVILLE, BLAIR COUNTY, THEN LED POLICE ON A 35 MILE CHASE INTO HUNTINGDON COUNTY.   SEVERAL OTHER SUSPECTS WERE LAST SEEN FLEEING ON FOOT NEAR ALTOONA’S LOGAN TOWN CENTRE AND A RED MUSTANG WAS FOUND ABANDONED IN THE PARKING LOT.  ELLIS IS JAILED ON 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL WITH A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED MAY 7TH.
