ONE WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA MAN RUNNING IN BOSTON YESTERDAY INSISTS  HE SAW BOMB-SNIFFING DOGS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE BOSTON MARATHON.  BEN GROSS RUNS THE MARATHON REGULARLY AND SAID HE THOUGHT IT ODD TO SEE SECURITY DETAIL DRESSED IN BLACK AND BOMB-SNIFFING DOGS.  THE 44-YEAR-OLD WAS AMONG DOZENS OF RUNNERS FROM WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE 117TH BOSTON MARATHON.

THERE WAS ALSO A GROUP FROM THE YMCA IN HOLLIDAYSBURG RUNNING IN THE MARATHON, AND SEVERAL GROUPS FROM PENN STATE … BUT THEY WEREN’T HURT EITHER.

PENNSYLVANIA OFFICIALS ARE RULING OUT FOUL PLAY IN YESTERDAY AFTERNOON'S DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE WEBSITE CRASH.  IT WAS DOWN FOR AT LEAST FOUR HOURS, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR LAST-MINUTE TAX FILERS TO MAKE THE TAX DEADLINE.   THE STATE HAS EXTENDED THE DEADLINE UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

WINDBER MEDICAL CENTER IS CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION OF ITS IMPROVED PROFESSIONAL BUILDING – A PROJECT THAT TOOK SIX MONTHS TO COMPLETE. IT’S THE HOME FOR “WINDBER MEDICAL SURGICAL GROUP” AND HAS OFFICE SPACE AND A DOZEN EXAM ROOMS AND COST MORE THAN HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TO RENOVATE.

TODAY IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT, FORMAL ARRAIGNMENT IS SCHEDULED FOR GREGORY CONZO OF BEAVERDALE.  HE’S CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE AND RELATED OFFENSES IN THE NOVEMBER DEATH OF MICHAEL PCOLA OF SUMMERHILL TOWNSHIP.  POLICE SAY CONZO HAD PREVIOUSLY ASSAULTED PCOLA’S MOTHER, WHO WAS HIS GIRLFRIEND. HE WENT TO THEIR HOME TO DISCUSS THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES…THEN FOUGHT WITH PCOLA AND STRUCK HIM WITH A BASEBALL BAT.   PCOLA DIED 2 DAYS LATER.

PATTON BORO POLICE SAY 35 YEAR OLD STEPHEN LAMONT WAS HIGH ON BALT SALTS SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN HE BROKE INTO A WOMAN’S HOME AND CLIMBED INTO BED WITH HER.  THE VICTIM WAS NOT HURT AND LAMONT IS NOW IN THE CAMRIA COUNTY JAIL.  LAMONT IS CURRENTLY AWAITING SENTENCING IN FEDERAL COURT AFTER PLEADING GUILTY IN 2011 TO BEING PART OF THE HUGE LOWMASTER DRUG RING, HEADQUARTERED IN CARROLLTOWN.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, 29 YEAR OLD RONALD STREETS JUNIOR OF MARYLAND PLEADED GUILTY TO VEHICULAR HOMICIDE CHARGES.

IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR, HIS CAR IN WELLERSBURG, KILLING HIS PASSENGER, 26 YEAR OLD ANTHONY WINTER OF MICHIGAN.   STREETS WALKED TO A NEIGHBORHOOD HOME TO CALL HIS FATHER AND AN EX-GIRLFRIEND FOR A RIDE BEFORE CALLING 9-1-1.   HE ALSO PLEADED TO FAILURE TO NOTIFY AUTHORITIES.  STREETS FACES UP TO 9 YEARS IN STATE PRISON WHEN HE IS SENTENCED ON JULY 10.
