CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT WILL NOW DECIDE WHO SHOULD FILL A VACANCY ON JOHNSTOWN CITY COUNCIL.  CITY COUNCIL DEADLOCKED LAST NIGHT AFTER TRYING AGAIN TO AGREE ON THE PERSON TO FILL THE SEAT LEFT VACANT WHEN ANN WILSON LOST HER BATTLE WITH CANCER.  COUNCIL HAD 45 DAYS TO PICK THE REPLACEMENT, BUT TIME HAS NOW RUN OUT AND THE COURT WILL HAVE TO DECIDE.

A WOMAN DELIVERING A PIZZA TO A HOME ON CYPRESS AVENUE IN MOXHAM WAS ROBBED AROUND 11:00 TUESDAY NIGHT.  SHE SAYS A MAN APPROACHED HER WITH A GUN AND DEMANDED MONEY. HE GOT SOME CASH AND HER CELL PHONE. THE WOMAN WAS NOT HURT.  MOXHAM NEIGHBORS PLAN TO HOLD A MEETING CONCERNING A LOCAL WATCH PROGRAM ON APRIL 10TH AT ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH.

A JOHNSTOWN WOMAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING AFTER DRIVING HER CAR INTO SEVERAL VEHICLES ON COLEMAN AVENUE IN THE MOXHAM  SECTION OF JOHNSTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.  AUTHORITIES SAY SHERRI HESS HAD A BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT. THIS IS HER FIFTH DUI AND SHE IS CURRENTLY A HOUSE ARREST. AUTHORITIES SAY THE WOMAN TRIED TO RUN AWAY FROM THE SCENE, BUT A NEIGHBOR STOPPED HER AND HELD HER UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED.

33 YEAR OLD BENJAMIN SCHOENFELD OF PORTAGE IS SCHEDULED TO GO ON TRIAL TODAY IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT.  HE’S CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED CRIMINAL HOMICIDE FOR SHOOTING DONALD LEWIS IN THE ARM WITH A SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN IN DECEMBER.  POLICE SAY SCHOENFELD WENT TO LEWIS’  HOME, POUNDED ON THE WINDOW, THEN SHOT LEWIS THROUGH THE GLASS.

45 YEAR OLD CATHERINE JOSEFIK OF PHILIPSBURG HAS ADMITTED EMBEZZLING MORE THAN 45-THOUSAND DOLLARS WHILE WORKING AS A CREDIT AND BUDGETING MANAGER AT THE SHEETZ CORPORATE OFFICES IN ALTOONA.  SHE IS EXPECTED TO WAIVE HER PRELIMINARY HEARING.

JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY FOR THE MURDER TRIAL OF 21 YEAR OLD WILLIAM CRAMER WHO IS ACCUSED OF STRANGLING HIS CELLMATE AUGUST 4TH IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON. CRAMER HAS PLEADED NOT GUILTY IN THE DEATH OF 28-YEAR-OLD WILLIAM SHERRY.  POLICE BELIEVE HE USED A BEDSHEET TO STRANGLE SHERRY AND THEN TRIED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SUICIDE.  CRAMER WAS A STATE PRISONER WHO WAS BEING HELD AT THE COUNTY FACILITY TEMPORARILY. PROSECUTORS ARE NOT SEEKING THE DEATH PENALTY.

A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR AN I.U.P. STUDENT CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A WOMAN AT AN OFF-CAMPUS RESIDENCE LAST MONTH. 19 YEAR OLD IAN GROFF OF CONESTOGA WILL FACE THE UNIVERSITY DISCIPLINARY PROCESS AS WELL.
