THE JOHNSTOWN MOTORCYCLE RALLY KNOWN AS THUNDER IN THE VALLEY IS OVER FOR ANOTHER YEAR … AND IS BEING CALLED A BIG SUCCESS.   AS MANY AS 200-THOUSAND PEOPLE CAME INTO THE AREA TO ENJOY THE FESTIVITIES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND THROUGHOUT THE REGION.  THE WEATHER COOPERATED … AND  JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY IT WAS A QUIET YEAR FOR THEM – WHICH IS ALWAYS GOOD NEWS.  JOHNSTOWN POLICE REPORT ONLY FIVE MINOR ARRESTS -- ONE OF THEM WAS A DUI.   THERE WERE ALSO THREE MINOR MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENTS AND JUST ONE PERSON WAS HURT.

A MAN ON SUNDAY MORNING ROBBED THE CONVENIENCE STORE ATTACHED TO THE BP GAS STATION ON FRANKLIN STREET IN JOHNSTOWN.    IT HAPPENED AT ABOUT 11AM WHEN THE MAN WAS IN THE STORE AND THE CLERK OPENED THE REGISTER.  THE MAN GRABBED SOME CASH AND FLED THE SCENE.  POLICE ARE REVIEWING SECURITY FOOTAGE TO HELP IDENTIFY THE MAN.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY …A FRIEDENS MAN IS CHARGED WITH RUNNING OVER ANOTHER MAN WITH AN ATV.  23 YEAR OLD DEREK MAUST FACES AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGES.  IT HAPPENED ON SCHOOL ROAD IN SHADE TOWNSHIP.  POLICE SAY THE VICTIM WAS RUN OVER SEVERAL TIMES AND SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES OVER HIS ENTIRE BODY.

POLICE SAY SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE BUSINESS “LEVEL ACRES NURSERY” IN ELK LICK TOWNSHIP IN SOMERSET COUNTY SATURDAY NIGHT.  THEY GOT ABOUT $450 IN CASH FROM THE REGISTER AND A SAFE.  ANYONE WHO HAS ANY INFORMATION IS URGED TO CALL POLICE.

IN FAYETTE COUNTY … THE WOMAN WHOSE BODY WAS FOUND SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE YOUGHIOGHENY RIVER HAS NOW BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 52-YEAR-OLD MARGARET KRIEK OF CONNELLSVILLE.  THE FAYETTE COUNTY CORONER SAID KRIEK WAS BEATEN TO DEATH.  STATE POLICE HAVE A PAIR OF 24-YEAR-OLD MEN IN CUSTODY ON HOMICIDE CHARGES.  WE MAY LEARN TODAY WHETHER THOSE CHARGES STEM FROM HER DEATH … OR FROM ANOTHER CASE.

2 GIRLS WERE HURT ON FRIDAY WHEN THE ATV THEY WERE RIDING ON DROVE INTO THE PATH OF A CAR.  STATE POLICE SAY A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL FROM TIPTON WAS DRIVING THE ATV ON RIDGE ROAD IN WARRIORS MARK TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY, WHEN THE CRASH OCCURRED. SHE AND HER 11-YEAR-OLD FEMALE PASSENGER SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES WHEN THEY WERE THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OF THE CAR WAS NOT INJURED.
