IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS DEVASTATED AFTER LOSING ONE OF THEIR OWN.  32 YEAR OLD GARY GONGLOFF DIED IN A TRACTOR ACCIDENT SATURDAY AFTERNOON.  AUTHORITIES SAY HE WAS USING THE TRACTOR TO PULL A STUMP OUT OF THE GROUND BUT THE FRONT WHEELS OF THE TRACTOR LIFTED INTO THE AIR AND THE VEHICLE OVERTURNED ON TOP OF HIM.  THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE CREWS WERE THERE QUICKLY, BUT THEY COULDN’T SAVE HIM.  HE DIED AT CONEMAUGH MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.  HIS DEATH HAS BEEN RULED ACCIDENTAL.

POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A MAN WHO STOLE JEWELRY FROM A LOCAL STORE.  AUTHORITIES SAY SHANE NEISNER STOLE A SIX THOUSAND DOLLAR ENGAGEMENT RING FROM LIPMAN’S JEWELERS IN THE GALLERIA. HE ASKED THE SALESPERSON IF HE COULD LOOK AT THE RING, AND THEN HE GRABBED IT AND TOOK OFF.  STORE OFFICIALS SAY HE’S BEEN A CUSTOMER IN THE STORE FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS.  HE LATER RETURNED TO THE MALL AND TRIED TO SELL THE RING TO ANOTHER JEWELRY STORE. HE WAS ARRESTED A SHORT TIME LATER.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY, THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF COPPER HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM A WINDMILL SITE ON NORTH CENTER AVENUE IN NORTHERN CENTRE TOWNSHIP.  SOMEONE CUT ABOUT 150-FEET OF COPPER WIRE FROM THE TURBINES AND FLED.  ABOUT TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF COPPER WAS STOLEN PLUS FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE WAS DONE, AS WELL.

SOMERSET COUNTY AUTHORITIES ARE LOOKING FOR THE VANDAL WHO HURLED A ROCK INTO THE ANTIQUE STAINED GLASS AT CHRIST CASEBEER LUTHERAN CHURCH.  NEITHER CHURCH OFFICIALS NOR POLICE THINK THE WEEKEND INCIDENT WAS ACCIDENTAL.  IT HAPPENED SOMETIME BEFORE FIVE O’CLOCK SATURDAY EVENING.  THE STAINED GLASS AT THE LINCOLN TOWNSHIP CHURCH IS 168-YEARS-OLD.

A PICKUP WAS HIT BY A TRAIN EARLY SATURDAY IN UNION TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY…AND NOW 22 YEAR-OLD COTY JOHNSON IS FACING DRUNK DRIVING CHARGES.  STATE POLICE SAY JOHNSON WAS DRIVING ALONG SOUTH EAGLE VALLEY ROAD WHEN HE TRIED TO TURN INTO A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY AND GOT STUCK IN A DITCH NEXT TO THE TRACKS.  JOHNSON WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE A NORFOLK SOUTHERN TRAIN HIT IT.

STATE POLICE AND THE F-A-A ARE INVESTIGATING SATURDAY’S PLANE CRASH ON THE RUNWAY AT THE ALTOONA/BLAIR COUNTY AIRPORT.   OFFICIALS SAY 2 PEOPLE WERE INSIDE THE EXPERIMENTAL PLANE WHEN IT FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN WHILE TRYING TO LAND. THE PILOT, CHARLES HAGERTY OF VIRGINIA AND HIS PASSENGER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND WERE TAKEN TO NASON HOSPITAL IN ROARING SPRING.

PATTON TOWNSHIP POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THE THIEVES WHO STOLE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF CONSTRUCTION ITEMS FROM BEST LINE EQUIPMENT IN STATE COLLEGE LAST THURSDAY OR FRIDAY.

THE SUSPECTS USED A PICK-UP TRUCK AND TRAILER TO HAUL THE ITEMS AWAY AND THE TRUCK WAS RECOVERED IN ANOTHER COUNTY.
