THE SOMERSET CHURCH THAT WAS TARGETED RECENTLY BY VANDALS HAS NOW BEEN ROBBED.  SOMETIME BETWEEN SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING, THIEVES BROKE INTO CHRIST CASEBEER LUTHERAN AND STOLE A COMMUNION CUP, 16-BRASS CANDLEHOLDERS, A SLIDE PROJECTOR AND SEVERAL OTHER ITEMS.  IN EARLY JUNE, SOMEONE THROUGH A ROCK THROUGH THE CHURCH’S 168-YEAR-OLD STAINED GLASS WINDOW.

AN EVERETT MAN DIED IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT LAST NIGHT.  POLICE SAY ROBIN VINEYARD WAS RIDING HIS MOTORCYCLE ON NORTH SPRING STREET, WHEN HE LOST CONTROL AND HIT A HOUSE IN EVERETT BOROUGH.  POLICE SAID THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY … TWO PEOPLE WERE HURT IN AN ATV ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED SUNDAY NIGHT.  THE ACCIDENT  HAPPENED ON SCHOOLHOUSE ROAD IN FAIRHOPE AT ABOUT 7 PM.  BOTH OF THE VICTIMS WERE TRANSPORTED TO MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER IN JOHNSTOWN.  NO WORD ON WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT.

IN DUBOIS … MANY PEOPLE SPENT MUCH OF THE WEEKEND CLEANING UP AFTER FLOODING LAST WEEK. THE RED CROSS OPENED EMERGENCY SHELTERS WHEN THE FLOODING WAS UNDERWAY AND IS NOW HAS BEEN MOBILIZING VOLUNTEERS AND HELPING PEOPLE CLEAN UP.   DONATIONS TO HELP FLOOD VICTIMS CAN BE MADE TODAY AT THE CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITY ACTION OFFICE ON CHERRY STREET IN CLEARFIELD.  DONATIONS OF MONEY, NON-PERISHABLE FOOD AND CLEANING ITEMS ARE REQUESTED.

A 31-YEAR-OLD CLEARFIELD COUNTY WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING NEARLY 52-HUNDRED DOLLARS FROM THE GIRL SCOUTS.  STATE POLICE IN CLEARFIELD HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED THE WOMAN, WHIO LIVES IN MADERA. THEY SAY SHE WROTE  CHECKS TO HERSELF, AS WELL AS MAKING PERSONAL A-T-M WITHDRAWLS FROM THE GIRL SCOUTS’ BANK ACCOUNT FROM OCTOBER OF 2012 TO MAY 1ST OF THIS YEAR.  THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.

THE MERGER OF ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED TODAY. THE PROCESS BEGAN ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO AND OFFICIALS WITH THE LOCAL HOSPITAL DECIDED THAT UPMC OFFERED THE BEST OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, ITS EMPLOYEES, AND ITS COMMUNITY. ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM’S NEW NAME WILL BE UPMC ALTOONA. UPMC HAS MADE A CAPITAL COMMITMENT OF 250 MILLION DOLLARS OVER 10 YEARS FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF HEALTH CARE FACILITIES AND SERVICES AT ALTOONA REGIONAL AND ITS AFFILIATES.

IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY … THREE PEOPLE ARE FACING CHARGES FOR RUNNING A GAS FOR CASH SCHEME.  STATE POLICE ARRESTED THE TRIO AFTER A CREDIT CARD THEFT VICTIM NOTICED AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF CHARGES.  THE SUSPECTS OFFERED CASH CUSTOMERS GAS AT HALF PRICE, SWIPE THE CREDIT CARD AND POCKET THE CASH.  THEY RANG UP MORE THAN 55-THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF GAS PURCHASES AT ELEVEN AREA SUNOCO STATIONS OVER A ONE-YEAR PERIOD.
