AT LEAST ONE PERSON WAS INJURED LAST NIGHT IN AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A TANKER TRUCK AND A CAR IN HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, ELK COUNTY.   IT HAPPENED AT THE INTERSECTION OF ROUTES 66 AND 948.  A CAR ROLLED ONTO IT’S ROOF. NO WORD YET ON THE SEVERITY OF THE INJURIES.

JOHNSTOWN POLICE HAVE ACCUSED A MAN NAMED BERT MCVIE WITH THREATENING HIS DOCTOR.  IT HAPPENED AT THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE’S WAITING ROOM ON MAIN STREET WHEN POLICE SAY THE MAN PULLED OUT A GUN.  INVESTIGATORS DETERMINED HE HAD A CONCEALED PERMIT FOR THE GUN, BUT SAY THAT DOESN’T GIVE HIM A RIGHT TO USE IT TO THREATEN PEOPLE. MCVIE FACES SEVERAL CHARGES INCLUDING MAKING TERRORISTIC THREATS.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF KALEB RIGHTENOUR OF MARTINSBURG GATHERED LAST NIGHT AT NORTHERN BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL … TO REMEMBER THE 15 YEAR OLD WHO DIED LAST SATURDAY NIGHT IN AN ATV ACCIDENT AT THE  BLAIR BEDFORD DIRT DRAGS RACING TRACK.  MANY DRESSED IN RACING GEAR IN HIS HONOR BECAUSE HE LOVED RACING SO MUCH.  A MEMORIAL RACE IS BEING PLANNED IN HIS HONOR.

PENNSYLVANIA'S EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY IS ENCOURAGING RESIDENTS WHO WANT TO HELP OKLAHOMA TORNADO SURVIVORS TO DONATE THROUGH ESTABLISHED ORGANIZATIONS.  PEMA OFFICIALS ISSUED A WARNING THURSDAY ABOUT PHONY CHARITIES THAT PREY ON THE EMOTIONS OF DECENT PEOPLE.  THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA HAS ON ITS WEBSITE A LIST OF APPROVED CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS.  VISIT O-K-DOT-GOV.

LAST WEEK, POLICE FOUND METH-MAKING MATERIALS DUMPED NEAR MEYERSDALE, SOMERSET COUNTY… AND NOW 2 WOMEN ARE FACING CHARGES.  AUTHORITIES SAY DEBRA CUSTER AND VANESSA HOUSEL BOUGHT DECONGESTANTS AT AREA PHARMACIES. CUSTER ALLEGEDLY TRADED THE PILLS TO HER SON, JORDAN O’DONNELL, FOR METH WHILE HOUSEL WAS PAID 50-DOLLARS. THE WOMEN ARE FREE ON BOND. O’DONNELL AND MATTHEW BOWMAN WERE BUSTED FOR MAKING METH LAST MONTH.

SUNSHINE AND TEMPERATURES IN THE 60’S ARE EXPECTED FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AND MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL BE HITTING THE ROAD.  PENNDOT, STATE POLICE AND THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE COMMISSION ARE SUSPENDING CONSTRUCTION ON STATE HIGHWAYS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  STATE AND LOCAL POLICE WILL HAVE EXTRA PATROLS OUT WATCHING FOR DRUNK, DISTRACTED, AND AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS. THEY WILL ALSO BE CHECKING FOR SEAT BELT USE.
