THE ONLY HOMELESS SHELTER IN CAMBRIA COUNTY MAY SOON CLOSE.  IT HAS BEEN OPERATED BY THE SALVATION ARMY IN JOHNSTOWN FOR DECADES, BUT THE BUILDING IS IN POOR CONDITION AND WOULD TAKE MORE THAN A MILLION DOLLARS TO FIX UP.  UNITED WAY HAS ORGANIZED A COMMUNITY SHELTER COMMITTEE THAT WILL WORK TO FIND A NEW PLACE FOR THE HOMELESS SHELTER.

AUTHORITIES IN ST. MARY’S, ELK COUNTY LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION … AFTER THERE WAS A REPORT OF A PIPE BOMB LOCATED OFF AVIATION WAY.   AUTHORITIES AT THIS POINT SAY THE DEVICE WAS RENDERED SAFE AND SAY THEIR INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.

A 15-HUNDRED DOLLAR REWARD IS NOW BEING OFFERED FOR INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO THE ARREST OF THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO STOLE SEVERAL VALUABLE SNAKES FROM A TRAILER HOME IN THE BOROUGH OF JULIAN IN CENTRE COUNTY.   SOMEONE STOLE 13 BALL PYTHON MORPH SNAKES VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY 30-THOUSAND DOLLARS.  THE THIEF OR THIEVES ONLY TOOK THE MOST EXPENSIVE SNAKES.

IN CENTRE COUNTY … MEMBERS OF THE PARK FOREST BAPTIST CHURCH SPENT THE DAY THURSDAY CLEANING UP …  AFTER VANDALS SPRAY PAINTED GRAFFITI ON THE CHURCH AND CHURCH VEHICLES. MANY OF THE MESSAGES WERE ANTI-CHRISTIAN VULGARITIES.  POLICE ASK THAT ANYONE WHO HAS ANY INFORMATION CONTACT AUTHORITIES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

IN THE JOHNSTOWN AREA, RICHLAND TOWNSHIP POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A ONE HANDED WOMAN WHO IS ALLEGEDLY FORGING PRESCRIPTIONS AND GOT THEM FILLED AT SEVERAL AREA PHARMACIES ON MAY 1ST.

POLICE SAY THEY WERE PRINTED ON SECURITY PAPER SO THEY WERE BELIEVABLE. THE WOMAN IS MISSING HER RIGHT HAND  ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL THE COPS AT 1-800-281-16-80.

CAMBRIA COUNTY ATTORNEY TIM BURNS SAYS HE ACTUALLY SUFFERED A CONCUSSION LAST WEEK WHEN HE WAS SUCKER-PUNCHED IN THE FACE BY DEATH ROW INMATE ANDRE STATON AT THE BLAIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE.  BURNS TELLS THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT HE IS NOW SUFFERING FROM POST-CONCUSSION SYNDROME…AND POSSIBLY EYE DAMAGE…AND HE DOESN’T EXPECT TO BE BACK AT WORK FOR SOME TIME.  CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST STATON WHO WAS SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR THE 2004 STABBING DEATH OF HIS ESTRANGED GIRLFRIEND, BEVERLY YOHN, IN ALTOONA.

IN GREENSBURG … THE MAN KNOWN AS THE “THE SETON HILL STALKER” IS GOING TO JAIL FOR AT LEAST FIVE DAYS FOLLOWED BY HOUSE ARREST.  JOHN BENNISH PLEADED GUILTY TO CHARGES HE STALKED A UNIVERSITY STUDENT AND BROKE INTO HER TOLLHOUSE APARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES.  THE 59-YEAR-OLD UNDERWENT MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY, TOO.  A SEARCH OF BENNISH'S HOME UNCOVERED PHOTOS OF WOMEN WHO LIVED AT TOLLHOUSE OVER THE PAST DECADE.

A CLOSURE IS PLANNED FOR BOTH DIRECTIONS OF THE TURNPIKE STARTING TOMORROW AT MIDNIGHT BETWEEN THE SOMERSET AND BEDFORD EXITS.    WEATHER PERMITTING, CREWS WILL REMOVE THE BRIDGE WHICH CARRIES CIDER ROAD OVER THE TURNPIKE IN JUNIATA TOWNSHIP.  THE ROAD WILL RE-OPEN AT 4:30 SUNDAY MORNING.
