AUTHORITIES IN SOMERSET COUNTY SAY ONE PERSON WAS HURT IN A BOATING ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED YESTERDAY ON THE YOUGHIOGHENY RIVER LAKE.  THE NAME OF THE VICTIM HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED.   THE STATE FISH AND BOAT COMMISSION IS INVESTIGATING.

MEANWHILE … TWO PEOPLE … A MAN AND A WOMAN … DROWNED YESTERDAY AFTER THEIR FLOATATION DEVICES WERE SWEPT OVER A DAM.  IT HAPPENED ALONG THE RAIN-SWOLLEN SUSQUEHANNA RIVER … THAT’S BETWEEN LOCK HAVEN AND WOODWARD TOWNSHIP.   A KAYAKER WAS ABLE TO RESCUE A 3RD PERSON.

THE WAUPLEANI HEIGHTS COMPLEX, AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN CENTRE COUNTY, WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE LAST NIGHT.  ABOUT 40 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LEFT WITHOUT A HOME, AFTER 19 APARTMENT UNITS WERE DESTROYED LAST NIGHT. NO WORD YET ON A CAUSE.

A TEENAGER FROM DUBOIS DIED IN A U-T-V CRASH ABOUT 2AM YESTERDAY IN WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY - POLICE SAY 19 YEAR OLD LEXIE WISE WAS SPEEDING WHEN SHE RAN DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND HIT A TREE.

HER PASSENGER, 20 YEAR OLD SHANNON THOMPSON OF REYNOLDSVILLE WAS FLOWN TO A PITTSBURGH HOSPITAL.

THE BLAIR COUNTY D-U-I TASK FORCE ARRESTED 6 PEOPLE FOR DRUNK DRIVING DURING A CHECKPOINT WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING.  THEY STOPPED 450 VEHICLES ALONG ROUTE 36 IN HOLLIDAYSBURG.

 ONE OF THE SUSPECTS WAS WORKING AND DRIVING A CLIENT BACK TO A LOCAL YOUTH DETENTION CENTER. HIS BLOOD-ALCOHOL LEVEL WAS MORE THAN TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT.
