Today isn't just the first day of summer -- it's also the height of hot dog season. Just under a quarter of the respondents in a recent Mintel survey say they only think about eating hot dogs during the warm weather months, when they're out grilling. Nearly 90-percent eat hot dogs grilled and served in a bun, but 12-percent admit they'd down more hot dogs if they knew other ways to serve them. But it's not just the weather or a lack of versatility that restricts consumption. A third say they'd enjoy hot dogs more often if hot were "more nutritious," while 26-percent would eat more hot dogs if the dogs contained less sodium. Fifteen-percent steer clear of hot dogs because the dogs are "too processed."
