Emmy Nominations Announced Today

"American Horror Story" is topping the list of nominees for the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.  The FX miniseries leads all other programs in nominations with 17, including Outstanding Mini-Series or TV movie.  Thursday morning's announcements also included an historic footnote with the nomination of Netflix's political thriller "House of Cards" in the Outstanding Drama Series category.  The nod marks the first major category nomination for an original series from a digital video streaming service.  "House of Cards" stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright also picked up nominations as lead actors.  "Arrested Development," which resumed play on Netflix in May, seven years after its cancelation on Fox, is also a Netflix Emmy nominee.  Star Jason Bateman was nominated for lead actor in the comedy category.

In addition to "House of Cards," this year's Outstanding Drama nominees include "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey," "Game Of Thrones," "Homeland" and "Mad Men."  The nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series include: "30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory," "Girls," "Louis," "Modern Family" and "Veep."  The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented Sunday, September 22nd at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.  CBS will televise the event live with Neil Patrick Harris as host.
