It wasn't very long ago that "The Big Bang Theory" wasn't even in the top 40 among rated shows in the United States. Times have changed! Last week's first-run episode topped the list in viewers most coveted by advertisers, those aged 18 to 49. It was the second most watched show last week overall.
Cast members say that the constant syndicated reruns along with TBS running them constantly have helped awareness of earlier seasons. Simon Helbert who plays Howard says "you're kind of forced to watch it now." Jim Parsons who has already won an Emmy for portraying Sheldon Cooper says "there's something impossible to fathom about the viewers", he also says "I can barely picture 20 people in one room watching let alone 17 or 18 million."
The cast is appearing at PaleyFest, an annual open-to-the-public series of TV series cast and crew panel discussions. It runs thru Friday in Los Angeles.
