"American Idol" judge Nicki Minaj is putting her money on one of the female contestants on Fox's talent search program. A woman has not picked up the title of "American Idol" since Jordin Sparks won in the sixth season of the competition in 2007, but the Young Money rapper tells MTV News she's "hoping a girl wins this year." Minaj believes that "the stars have aligned" perfectly for a female to win it all. She says the female contestants have "just had strong voices." So far, Minaj says the judges have managed to narrow down the field to "some great girls." She adds that the judges have done "a great job picking amazing voices." On Thursday night's episode, the judges finished choosing the top 20 contestants.
Nicki Minaj is not the only judge who is hoping a woman wins "American Idol." Keith Urban told MTV News last week that this year is "absolutely a girl's year to win." While he points out that the male contestants are strong, Urban admits that the female contestants are much stronger. Check out the top 20 "Idol" contestants face off to see who becomes the next American superstar next Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
