U-S MARSHALS ARRESTED 23 YEAR OLD JONATHAN BEAL OF MEYERSDALE YESTERDAY MORNING IN A NEW ORLEANS SUBURB.   HE WAS HIDING THE BASEMENT OF A HOME.  FRIENDS SAY BEAL ADMITTED STRANGLING HIS GIRLFRIEND, 19-YEAR-OLD JUSTINE JACKSON, THE BURYING HER BODY IN A SHALLOW GRAVE. IT WAS FOUND SUNDAY NEAR THE GREAT ALLEGHENY PASSAGE TRAIL NEAR MEYERSDALE.   JUSTINE HAD TOLD FAMILY MEMBERS SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH BEAL’S CHILD.  HE WILL BE EXTRADITED TO SOMERSET COUNTY TO FACE CHARGES.

CENTRE COUNTY PRISON INMATE LARRY THOMAS BRIEFLY ESCAPED FROM A WORK DETAIL LAST MONTH…AND HE WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING YESTERDAY.   THOMAS IS ALSO ACCUSED OF STEALING A PICKUP TRUCK TO MAKE HIS GETAWAY. HE WAS ARRESTED THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD AUTHORITIES HE HAD RECEIVED CORRESPONDENCE THAT MADE HIM WORRY ABOUT HIS FIANCEE AND HIS DAUGHTER.   THOMAS WAS SERVING 11 TO 23 MONTHS FOR ILLEGALLY POSSESSING A FIREARM.

CAMBRIA COUNTY FIRE INVESTIGATORS SAY A MALFUNCTIONING COAL AND WOOD FURNACE IS TO BLAME FOR THE FIRE THAT DESTROYED A LARGE DETACHED GARAGE NEAR A PRIVATE RESIDENCE IN THE 100 BLOCK OF ADAMS CROSSING ROAD IN BLACKLICK TOWNSHIP.   IT HAPPENED TUESDAY NIGHT…AND A PICKUP TRUCK, AN S-U-V AND A TRACTOR PARKED IN THE GARAGE ALONG WITH A WORKSHOP AND TOOLS ALSO WERE DESTROYED.

SHOTS WERE FIRED DURING A POLICE STANDOFF YESTERDAY IN CLEARFIELD BORO.  AROUND 4:45, 43 YEAR OLD PETER CAIN REFUSED TO ALLOWED HIS WIFE INTO THEIR HOME AND HE HREATENED TO SHOOT ANYONE WHO STEPPED ON THE PORCH. WHEN 4 POLICE OFFICERS ARRIVED, THEY EVACUATED THE WOMAN AND SOME NEIGHBORS…AND CAIN FIRED 5 SHOTS IN THEIR DIRECTION, BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED.  COPS WERE ABLE TO TAKE CAIN INTO CUSTODY ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER.

NO ONE WAS HURT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHEN A SMALL COMMERCIAL PLANE HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT UNIVERSITY PARK AIRPORT.  THE UNITED AIRWAYS EXPRESS FLIGHT HAD JUST TAKEN OFF AND WAS HEADING TO DULLES NEAR WASHINGTON, D.C., WHEN THE PILOTS NOTICED THAT THE LANDING GEAR WOULDN’T RETRACT.  EMERGENCY CREWS ROLLED OUT ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT…THE PLANE…CARRYING 36 PASSENGERS…LANDED SAFELY.
