TODAY IS PATRIOT DAY, THE 12TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 9/11 TERRORIST ATTACKS AND A REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY WILL BEGIN AT 9:45 AT THE FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL IN SHANKSVILLE. A LUMINARIA SERVICE WAS HELD LAST NIGHT. ALSO TODAY: THE ANNUAL REMEMBRANCE PROGRAM IS BEING HELD FROM 1 TO 4 AT HOLLIDAYSBURG VETERANS HOME. SIMUTANEOUS PROGRAMS IN EISENHOWER AND ARNOLD HALLS. AT 5PM, BLAIR COUNTY COMMUNITY ACTION WILL HOLD ITS 12TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY CONCERT AT HERITAGE PLAZA ALONG 11TH AVENUE IN ALTOONA. AND AN EVENT WILL BE HELD AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA’S WORLD TRADE CENTER MONUMENT INCLUDING A REMEMBRANCE OF THE 3 I-U-P GRADUATES WHO DIED IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. 3 FATAL CRASHES A 13-YEAR-OLD AMISH BOY IS DEAD AND AN 8-YEAR-OLD BOY SEVERELY INJURED AFTER THEIR WAGON COLLIDED WITH A PICK-UP TRUCK TUESDAY NEAR BELLEVILLE. STATE POLICE AT LEWISTOWN SAY 19 YEAR OLD JONATHAN STALEY OF BELLEVILLE WAS DRIVING ON WAYNESBURG ROAD. AS HE CRESTED A HILL, HE SAW THE BOYS’ WAGON DRIFT INTO HIS LANE. HE HONKED HIS HORN AND HIT THE BRAKES BUT WAS UNABLE TO AVOID HITTING THE WAGON. BOTH BOYS WERE EJECTED. A DEADLY MOTORCYCLE WRECK IN BLAIR COUNTY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. POLICE SAY THE DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT ALONG DUNNINGS HIGHWAY IN EAST FREEDOM AND COLLIDED WITH AN S-U-V. THE VICTIM’S NAME HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED. A DEADLY CRASH LAST NIGHT IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY A 42 YEAR OLD BALTIMORE MAN LOST CONTROL OF HIS CAR ALONG I-80 EASTBOUND IN LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP. THE VEHICLE BECAME AIRBORNE AND FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES, EJECTING THE DRIVER. HIS NAME HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED. COP IN TROUBLE ALTOONA’S ACTING CITY MANAGER OMAR STROHM SAYS POLICE OFFICER MATTHEW PLUMMER HAS BEEN RE-ASSIGNED TO DESK DUTY AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH FELONY AGGRAVATED ASSAULT DURING A CONCERT OUTSIDE PITTSBURGH SATURDAY NIGHT. A BUSLOAD OF COPS AND 911 DISPATCHERS HAD MADE THE TRIP…AND PLUMMER CONFRONTED A MAN HE THOUGHT HIT THE BUS WITH A BOTTLE AND EXPOSED HIMSELF. THE VICTIM ALLEGEDLY THREW A PUNCH, WHICH MISSED…THEN PLUMMER STRUCK HIM IN THE FACE CAUSING HIM TO FALL, BLEEDING FROM THE MOUTH. PLUMMER’S PRELIMINARY HEARING IN WASHINGTON COUNTY IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD. ROBBERS IN CUSTODY ALTOONA POLICE SAY 2 MEN ARE IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING A CRIME SPREE THIS WEEK. 29 YEAR OLD SHAWN BECK OF EAST FREEDOM IS ACCUSED OF ROBBING THE SOUTH LLOYD STREET DOLLAR GENERAL STORE MONDAY MORNING, DISPLAYING A GUN THAT TIME…THEN HOLDING UP THE EAST PLEASANT BOULEVARD FAMILY DOLLAR STORE TUESDAY MORNING. IN BETWEEN, HE TRIED TO ROB CITIZENS BANK ON BROAD AVENUE, BUT THE TELLER FROZE SO BECK GRABBED HIS NOTE OFF THE COUNTER AND FLED. A SHORT TIME LATER, STATE POLICE SPOTTED THE STOLEN CAR BECK WAS IN AND STOPPED HIM AND THE GETAWAY DRIVER, 22 YEAR OLD TYLER LATTIERI OF ALTOONA. BOTH MEN HAVE CONFESSED AND ARE IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON. BECK IS ALSO ACCUSED OF WRITING A BAD CHECK TO BUY A CAR. PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED NEXT WEDNESDAY. HANDCUFFED WOMAN DRIVES OFF IN POLICE CAR 25 YEAR OLD JANICA GERMELLO OF STATE COLLEGE IS IN BIG TROUBLE IN WILLIAMSPORT AFTER SHE COMMANDEERED AN UNMARKED STATE POLICE CRUISER SATURDAY AND DROVE IT WHILE HANDCUFFED BEHIND HER BACK. GERMELLO GOT INTO A PICKUP TRUCK DURING A DRUG STING. SHE FLED FROM THE TROOPER AND A POLICE CRUISER ARRIVED. SHE WAS PLACED IN THE FRONT SEAT…AS IS PROCEDURE. WHEN THE TROOPER WAS WALKING AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE, GERMELLO LOCKED THE DOORS AND TOOK OFF, DRIVING ON I-80 IN AN ERRATIC MANNER. POLICE CAUGHT UP TO GERMELLO AND FOUND 10 BAGS OF HEROIN AND OTHER DRUG PARAPHERNALIA IN HER PURSE. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED THURSDAY. RAID AT JOHNSTOWN DEFENSE CONTRACTOR FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS RAIDED 2 OFFICES AT DEFENSE CONTRACTOR CONCURRENT TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION IN JOHNSTOWN TUESDAY MORNING AND U.S. ATTORNEY DAVID HICKTON ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING SPECIAL AGENTS FROM THE DEFENSE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES, INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE – CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, AND AIR FORCE OFFICE OF SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS EXECUTED A SEARCH WARRANT AS PART OF AN ONGOING FEDERAL INVESTIGATION.
