FORMER PENN STATE ALTOONA student VLADISLAV MIFTAKHOV is CHARGED WITH MANUFACTURING AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE WITHOUT A LICENSE…and he’s scheduled to enter a plea today in johnstown’s federal court. 18-YEAR-OLD WAS ARRESTED IN LATE JANUARY AFTER POLICE FOUND BOMB-MAKING MATERIALS IN HIS APARTMENT DURING A SEARCH FOR A SUSPECTED MARIJUANA GROWING OPERATION. since then, HE HAS BEEN IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON. MIFTAKHOV COULD RECEIVE UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON AND A FINE OF UP TO 250-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.

 

3 year old Brooklyn Bowers was attacked BY A PIT BULL last month NEAR EVERETT, BEDFORD COUNTY….AND NOW 24 year old Joshua Dunkle is facing a summary citation for Harboring a Dangerous Dog. Brooklyn’s family WAS walking outside of their car on Milk and Water Road when the ANIMAL BIT THE LITTLE GIRL. SHE NEEDED 300 stitches, plastic surgery and spent 4 days in the hospital. District Attorney Bill Higgins SAYS the dog WILL be put down. Dunkle MAY HAVE TO PAY a 300 dollar fine, but THERE WILL BE no jail time.

 

JOHNSTOWN POLICE CHIEF CRAIG FOUST TELLS THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT THAT THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO THE CITY’S LATEST HOMICIDE. A RELATIVE FOUND 32 YEAR OLD JARRETT SMITH DEAD FRIDAY INSIDE HIS HOME ON THE 200 BLOCK OF EBENSBURG ROAD. AN AUTOPSY SHOWED HE DIED FROM A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE CHEST. NO WORD ON ANY SUSPECTS.

BOTH DRIVERS SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES ALONG WITH 4 YEAR OLD BRICEN TANEYHILL. A WOMAN AND A 5 YEAR OLD BOY IN HOLTHOUSER’S VEHICLE HAD MODERATE INJURIES. ALL WERE TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA.

 

after several DELAYs, Sentencing is scheduled today in johnstown’s federal court FOR CONVICTED DRUG kingpin, GEORGE LOWMASTER OF Carrolltown. LOWMASTER FACES AT LEAST 20 YEARS. 2 dozen people, including Lowmaster’s parents and other relatives, have pleaded guilty for their roles in the operation.

54 YEAR OLD STEPHEN PINER OF ALTOONA HAS BEEN ORDERED TO TRIAL NOW THAT THE STATE SUPREME COURT HAS REJECTED FURTHER HEARINGS ON PRE-TRIAL ISSUES. PINER’S BROTHER, KENNETH, IS SERVING 36 TO 72 YEARS IN PRISON. DAMION FLOYD IS DOING 23-AND-A-HALF TO 60 YEARS. AND HIS GIRLFRIEND, NATASHA MILLER, WAS SENTENCED TO 16 TO 32 YEARS. THE D-A’S OFFICE IS HOPING TO GO TO TRIAL NEXT MONTH, BUT A DELAY IS EXPECTED.

A judge has ruled that former FBI director Louis Freeh must show why GRAHAM SPANIER’S pending civil lawsuit against him should be heard in federal court RATHER THAN IN CENTRE COUNTY. The FORMER PENN STATE PRESIDENT HAS FILED A NOTICE THAT HE INTENDS TO SUE FREEH FOR DEFAMATION. FREEH HAS PREVIOUSLY SAID he's not a Pennsylvania resident, And he’s cited other issues.

 

YESTERDAY WAS Sandy Barbour’S FIRST DAY ON THE JOB AS Penn State’S NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. SHE WAS HIRED in late July TO REPLACE Dave Joyner who retired in June. BARBOUR’S contract SETS HER SALARY AT 700 thousand DOLLARS per year. It also carries a maximum of 100 thousand per year if she remains employed at THE UNIVERSITY. Barbour can make an extra 100 G’S annually for meeting performance goals based on graduation rates and NCAA post-season appearance among other things.

 

CLASSES START ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW IN The Altoona Area School District AND THE ENTIRE DISTRICT will implement a new visitor management system STARTING THEN. Visitors will be asked to present and scan a photo ID upon check-in at any of the school locations. OFFICIALS SAY This system is another proactive measure in helping to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors. ALTOONA IS the first school district in Blair County to implement this system.
