PENN STATE COULD HAVE THE FINAL YEAR OF THE BOWL BAN LIFTED. THE SPORTING NEWS IS REPORTING THAT 2 NCAA SOURCES HAVE SAID THE UNIVERSITY HAS A STRONG CASE TO HAVE THE BAN LIFTED FOR 2015 IF PENN STATE CONTINUES ITS PROGRESS TOWARD IMPLEMENTING RECOMMENDATIONS MADE IN THE CONSENT DECREE. CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP POLICE CHIEF MARK WESTRICK. SAYS MILLER SOUNDED INTOXICATED THIS APPEARS TO BE A POSSIBLE DOMESTIC RELATED ISSUE. SHE LATER CALLED ALTOONA POLICE AND SAID SHE HAD BEEN ASSAULTED AND THERE WAS AN UNWANTED MALE AT HER APARTMENT. ACCORDING TO THE ALTOONA MIRROR, POLICE HAVE CONNECTED MILLER TO A SIMILAR CASE IN THE CITY.

A CONSTRUCTION WORKER WHO FELL OFF A ROOF AUGUST 20TH IN DAVIDSVILLE, SOMERSET COUNTY, HAS DIED AT JOHNSTOWN’S MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER. CAMBRIA COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY CORONER JEFF LEES SAYS 30 YEAR OLD GREGORY BECKETT JUNIOR OF EVERETT FELL ABOUT 30 FEET AND SUFFERED A SEVERE HEAD INJURY.

NOW, BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE HIRAM CARPENTER HAS DISMISSED KENNEY’S POST CONVICTION RELIEF ACT PETITION, BASED ON TIMELINESS. THOSE TYPES OF CLAIMS MUST BE FILED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE SENTENCE BECOMING FINAL. KENNEY’S WAS FILED ALMOST 10 YEARS LATER. THIS CASE SPARKED STATEWIDE CHANGES TO THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES LAW IN THE 1990’S. T

HE STATE SUPREME COURT HAS DENIED FURTHER APPEALS FROM SEAN ALLEN OF HOLLIDAYSBURG WHO IS SERVING LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE FOR THE 2009 BEATING AND STRANGULATION OF PENN STATE ALTOONA STUDENT MAGGIE DAVIS. ALLEN CLAIMED HE HAD INEFFECTIVE COUNSEL AT HIS TRIAL AND THAT GRAPHIC PHOTOS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO THE JURY.

IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT, MORE CHILD RAPE AND INCEST CHARGES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE LIST FOR 26 YEAR OLD ELVIN LAMEY OF HOWARD AND HE’S WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING. HE WAS PREVIOUSLY CHARGED WITH ABUSING YOUNG RELATIVES AND IS FREE ON 300-THOUSAND DOLLARS UNSECURED BOND. LAMEY…A CONCESSIONS WORKER…IS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH MINORS AND HE WAS BARRED FROM ATTENDING THE CENTRE COUNTY GRANGE FAIR.

STATE COLLEGE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AN ASSAULT THAT OCCURRED EARLY WEDNESDAY OUTSIDE THE DELTA SIGMA PHI FRATERNITY HOUSE ON EAST FAIRMOUNT STREET. THE VICTIM WAS FLOWN TO UPMC ALTOONA WITH SEVERAL FRACTURES TO HIS EYE ORBITAL AND OTHER FACIAL INJURIES. NO WORD ON ANY SUSPECTS.

A CENTRE COUNTY WOMAN HAS WAIVED HER PRELIMINARY HEARING ON CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES. BACK IN MARCH, 8 CHILDREN…RANGING IN AGE FROM 2 MONTHS TO 16… AND SEVERAL PETS WERE REMOVED FROM THE MILES TOWNSHIP HOME OF 36 YEAR OLD MANDY COOK. THE HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH ANIMAL FECES AND GARBAGE AND KNIVES WERE WITHIN REACH. COOK REMAINS FREE ON HER OWN RECOGNIZANCE.

ALTOONA POLICE SAY BOBBI JO GREEN’S 3RD AVENUE HOUSE WAS A MESS WHEN THEY ARRIVED EARLIER THIS MONTH AND YESTERDAY A DISTRICT JUDGE ORDERED HER TO STAND TRIAL ON CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES. GREEN’S LAWYER SAYS THE HOUSE WAS CLUTTERED PRIOR TO A YARD SALE AND IT SMELLED OF ANIMAL WASTE BECAUSE SHE HADN’T BEEN ABLE TO LET HER 6 DOGS OUT THAT DAY. SHE AND HER 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WERE STAYING ELSEWHERE AT THE TIME. GREEN’S ARRAIGNMENT IS SET FOR OCTOBER 3RD.

THE CITY OF ALTOONA IS HOPING TO LEASE THE WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS TO AN OUTSIDE ENTITY FOR AS MUCH AS 240-MILLION DOLLARS, BUT YESTERDAY THE ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY PRESENTED A PLAN TO KEEP THEM UNDER LOCAL CONTROL AND STILL PROVIDE THE CITY WITH MORE MONEY AS IT TRIES TO DIG OUT OF THE STATE’S ACT 47 PROGRAM. FORMER MAYOR TOM MARTIN SAYS THE PLAN WOULD BRING IN ABOUT 285 MILLION DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT 25 YEARS AND 450 MILLION OVER THE NEXT FIFTY YEARS. NO COMMENT FROM CITY OFFICIALS AS TO WHETHER THEY WILL CONSIDER IT.

AN ANNOUNCEMENT COULD BE COMING SOON ABOUT GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT’S PLAN TO USE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN FEDERAL MEDICAID EXPANSION DOLLARS UNDER THE 2010 HEALTH CARE LAW TO SUBSIDIZE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES.
