STATE POLICE IN BLAIR COUNTY HAVE ANNOUNCED THE NAME OF THE MOTORCYCLE DRIVER WHO died in a crash JUST BEFORE 2:30 THURSDAY MORNING. 30 YEAR OLD Troy Shaw of Duncansville LOST CONTROL OF HIS BIKE on Old Route 220 in Juniata Township. HE DIED LATER AT UPMC Altoona.
30 YEAR OLD KIRBY RICHMAN OF BEDFORD WAS FLOWN TO UPMC ALTOONA LAST NIGHT AFTER HIS VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON AN I-99 ENTRANCE RAMP IN BEDFORD TOWNSHIP. POLICE SAY THE OTHER DRIVER, 68 YEAR OLD DANIEL SMITH OF BEDFORD, ESCAPED INJURY.

AROUND 9:40PM, 24 YEAR OLD KEVIN BLACK, A DRIVER FOR HOME DELIVERY PIZZA, was driving on South Atherton Street when he made a right turn onto Woodsdale Lane. His vision was obscured by the rain and he didn’t see 62 YEAR OLD John Tucker of Boalsburg. Tucker was ALSO taken to THE HOSPITAL.
The State College Police Department has designated today and tomorrow as Penn State Student Return Days. To minimize anticipated unloading problems, one eastbound travel lane on the 600 block of East College Avenue will be closed each day between 8 and 5. Some minor traffic delays are expected on East College Avenue between South Garner Street and University Drive.

ONE PERSON WAS Taken to THE hospital with SMOKE INHALATION along with a firefighter who is being treated for heat exhaustion. they are both listed in good condition. THE BLAZE APPARENTLY STARTED IN THE BASEMENT and killed 2 pets. AN INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

26 YEAR OLD WILLIAM THOMPSON OF Somerset has been charged with a home invasion ON NORTH ROSINA AVENUE in Somerset Boro. police say he admitted BREAKING INTO THE HOUSE EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, DEMANDING MONEY FROM AN 82 YEAR OLD WOMAN, AND FORCING HER AT GUNPOINT TO DRIVE TO SEVERAL OF HER BANK’S ATM’S. Charges INCLUDE kidnapping, burglary, AND terrorist threats. Thompson is ALSO BELIEVED TO BE the man WHO ENTERED A SANNER STREET HOME WEDNESDAY NIGHT. HE demanded money FROM AN 82 YEAR OLD MAN, BUT THE VICTIM BEAT HIM WITH A STOOL AND THOMPSON FLED. Thompson Is in the Somerset County Jail on 500-THOUSAND DOLLARS bond.
LATASHA POWELL AND ANTHONY ROBINSON-COLLINS OF JOHNSTOWN WAIVED THEIR PRELIMINARY HEARINGS YESTERDAY AND WERE ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL ON CHARGES OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT. EARLIER THIS WEEK, POLICE RESPONDED TO A FIGHT AT THEIR MCMILLEN STREET HOME AND FOUND 5 CHILDREN LIVING IN FILTH. THE HOUSE WAS INFESTED WITH COCKROACHES AND COVERED IN TRASH. THE ONLY LIGHTS WERE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS HANGING ON A WALL. THE CHILDREN ARE STAYING WITH FAMILY MEMBERS.
the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission yesterday approved a 1-point-3 million dollar settlement against West Penn Power company which serves customers in Centre, Elk, and Clearfield counties. west penn failed to meet required energy reduction standards and must pay the civil penalty within 30 days. it cannot be generated from a rate hike and The money will go into the state’s general fund.

TYRONE hospital is FEATURED IN THE HOSPITALS AND HEALTH NETWORKS MAGAZINE for its successful RECOVERY FROM BANKRUPTCY. THE magazine, published by the American Hospital Associaton, notes that the hospital was months from closing a few years ago, but has TURNED COMPLETED AROUND and recently announced plans for a 20 million DOLLAR addition. ThIS fall, Tyrone Hospital will celebrate its 60th anniversary.
