BLAIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COULD VOTE AT TODAY’S MEETING TO SELL VALLEY VIEW NURSING HOME. 5 HEALTH CARE COMPANIES HAVE SUBMITTED BIDS.
PUBLIC HEARING TONIGHT IN CENTRE HALL -
The 3rd Centre Crest public hearing is TONIGHT AT 6:30 at the Centre Hall Elementary School cafeteria. Centre County Commissioners ARE getTING feedback from the public on the possible change of the nursing home to a public non-profit entity. The FINAL 2 SESSIONS will be held TOMORROW at District Judge Allen Sinclair’s office in Philipsburg; and March 27TH at the Courthouse Annex in Bellefonte.
NO RULING IN MCQUEARY LAWSUIT -
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTS THAT LAWYERS FOR PENN STATE AND FORMER ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH MIKE McQUEARY ARGUED IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT ON MONDAY WHETHER JUDGE THOMAS GAVIN SHOULD DISMISS McQUEARY’S DEFAMATION AND WHISTLEBLOWER LAWSUIT BEFORE IT GOES TO TRIAL..BUT THE JUDGE SAYS IT COULD BE LATE APRIL BEFORE HE RULES. McQUEARY’S LAWSUIT REMAINS IN THE PRELIMINARY STAGES. HE DID NOT ATTEND THE HEARING.
INMATE INJURED AFTER JUMPING -
A 19-YEAR-OLD JOHNSTOWN MAN WAS INJURED WHEN HE JUMPED FROM THE STAIRWAY OF THE CAMBRIA COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN EBENSBURG. TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT AKEEM TYSON RHINE WAS DISRUPTIVE DURING HIS HEARING ON VARIOUS ASSAULT AND HARRASSMENT CHARGES. WHEN DEPUTIES TOOK HIM FROM THE COURTROOM, HE JUMPED OVER THE 3RD FLOOR RAILING. HE WAS CAUGHT BY HIS SHIRT BUT BROKE LOOSE AND JUMPED FROM THE 2ND TO THE 1ST FLOOR. RHINE WAS UNCONSCIOUS WHEN HE WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO CONEMAUGH MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER. THE INCIDENT IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE STATE POLICE AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE.
Liquor Privatization Bill Moves Out Of Committee -
Governor Corbett's liquor privatization bill takes its first step toward becoming law. The bill cleared the House Liquor Committee Monday. Last year, a similar bill cleared the committee but stalled in the State House. If the state gets out of the liquor business, more than 600 "state stores" would be replaced with 1200 licenses for private wine and spirits shops.
Cause Of Seton Hill Bus Accident Still Uncertain -
Investigators have yet to pinpoint the exact cause of Saturday's bus accident that killed the Seton Hill lacrosse coach, her unborn son, and the bus driver. Toxicology tests are being conducted on the 61-year-old bus driver from Johnstown. The lacrosse team was headed to Millersville for a match when the driver lost control on the Turnpike east of Carlisle. Two of the 14-students who were injured in the crash remain hospitalized.
STOLEN MOTORCYCLE RECOVERED –
A GROUP OF MEN ATTEMPTING TO SNAG SCRAP FROM THE FLOOR OF DUMAN LAKE IN EBENSBURG RECOVERED A 2007 SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE THAT WAS STOLEN IN BLAIR COUNTY IN NOVEMBER OF 2011. IT IS UNKNOWN WHO DUMPED THE BIKE INTO THE LAKE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CONTACT STATE POLICE IN EBENSBURG.
